Calgary landfill fees in 2026 are $113 per tonne for garbage, with a $25 flat charge for any load under 250 kg. Drywall and clean recyclable wood are $90 per tonne, yard waste is $50 per tonne, and tires are free to drop off.
Because the scale weighs your vehicle on the way in and out, you only pay for what you leave behind. Even so, for a garage or basement clean-out the fee is rarely the big cost. The trips are.

Take a typical single-car garage clean-out: old furniture, boxes, a broken shelving unit and some scrap lumber. Say it comes to about one tonne and needs three trailer loads.
On Calgary landfill fees alone, hauling a load or two yourself usually costs less. However, a bin starts to make sense when the job takes more than a couple of trips. It also helps when you do not have a truck or trailer, or when your time is worth more than an afternoon at the scale. See our bin sizes and prices for the full list, including what costs extra.
A few items carry an added fee in a bin as well, such as tires, mattresses and appliances. The dumpster rental page lists each one, so you know the cost before you load. Then, to choose a size, see what size bin do I need?
